As people feel the detrimental effects of fundamentally inadequate governance regimes on their lives, livelihoods, and the environment, resistance to free trade agreements has grown. Women have been at the forefront of these resistance efforts, informed by their experiences as the people most impacted by "successful" neoliberal policies.

On 17 March 2026, the Gender and Trade Coalition, along with co-convenors FEMNET, Regions Refocus, and Third World Network, organizes a virtual parallel event to the 70th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) entitled “Building Feminist Alliances for Trade Justice.” The event will take place on Tuesday, 17 March, at 12:30 UTC, which is 8:30 am EDT (New York), 1:30 pm CET (Geneva), and 6 pm IST (New Delhi), via Zoom. It will connect core feminist issues to global trade and build solidarity in the fight for feminist trade justice.

This interactive workshop will build on the GTC’s series of feminist trade explainers to help participants understand how the issues they organize around – such as gender, climate, and (post)-conflict  – are connected to global trade and why trade is a feminist issue. Live English-French and English-Spanish interpretation will be available.
