How can we effectively organise as feminist trade activists?
The Gender and Trade Coalition, together with co-convenors Nawi-Afrifem Collective, Regions Refocus, Third World Network and WIDE+, invites you to “What ‘Free Trade Feminism’ Means for Feminist Movements” – an online conversation with the authors of the recently published book A Feminist Political Economy of Trade, Adrienne Roberts and Silke Trommer.
Drawing on the book's research, the authors and invited speakers will explore:
- How gender equality language in trade policy can reinforce market-centred approaches while leaving structural inequalities, labour rights and care largely unaddressed;
- The limitations of “free trade feminism” and their implications for feminist trade activism;
- Possibilities for developing a transformative feminist trade agenda.
Speakers include:
- Silke Trommer, University of Manchester
- Adrienne Roberts, University of Manchester
- Ranja Sengupta, Third World Network
- Fatimah Kelleher, Nawi-Afrifem Collective
- Erica Levenson, Regions Refocus
- Moderator: Edmé Dominguez, WIDE+
Date: Tuesday, 1 December, 2026
Time: 2-3:30pm UTC
